PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GOAL SETTING

  • Short term goals: goals that can be accomplished in one year.
  • Long term goals: goals that can be accomplished in more than one year.
  • A short term goal of mine is to have a 3.5 gpa by the end of the year.

VALUES

  • A value is a belief or practice or what is important and worthwhile to an individual.
  • A value of mine is my family.

NEEDS/WANTS

  • A need is an item that is necessary for life.
  • A want is something that is unnecessary to life, but desired.
  • A need of mine is shelter
  • A want of mine is a phone

LEARNING STYLES

  • Visual learner: a way of learning while using images.
  • Auditory learner: a way of learning through listening.
  • Tactile learner: learning through doing thing physically.
  • I am a visual learner which means I learn best while seeing things and having it right in front of me.

DECISION MAKING

  • Decision making: process of making choices among possible alternatives
  • Decision making process: identify, list, weigh, choose, evaluate
  • A personal decision I had to make was if I was going to do cheer or not.

SELF CONCEPT/ESTEEM

  • Self concept: how you see yourself
  • Self worth: how you feel about yourself
  • A personal way to build someone's self esteem is to give them a compliment

TIME/STRESS MANAGEMENT

  • Time management: how well you use your time
  • Stress: state of mental or emotional strain
  • Study skills: strategies approached to learning
  • I study by making flash cards

CRISIS MANAGEMENT

  • Depression: a state of feeling sad
  • Suicide: the act of taking ones own life
  • Coping strategies: workout, run, sleep or drive
  • When I'm angry I like to listen to music because it calms me down

COMMUNICATION

  • Verbal communication: using words, talking back
  • Nonverbal communication: not using words, texting
  • I like nonverbal communication better because I don't like to talk all the time

COMMUNICATION

  • Destructive communication: showing someone you're not listening to them
  • Constructive communication: showing you're paying attention
  • When I'm talking to someone I give input back so they know I'm listening

GOSSIP

  • Gossip: talking about someone behind their back to make yourself feel better
  • Whenever I hear gossip I back up the person who is being talked about

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Relationships: the way in which two or more people are connected.

UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

  • An unhealthy relationship can be abusive, or just all around depressing.
  • 33% of teens have admitted to being abused.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Dating: two people in an intimate relationship.
  • Purposes of dating: socialization, recreation, mate selection
