CATEGORY 1 (5 POINTS EACH)

  • Q1: What rock is light enough to float on water? Pumice.
  • Q2: Which rocks are formed from the remains of living things? Sedimentary rocks are formed from living things.
  • Q3: List three minerals found in granite? Mica,Plagiocas,Feldspar and
  • Orthoclase Feldspar.
  • Q4: What is a native element? List two examples. A native element is an element that naturally occurs in it pure form.
  • Q5: Which minerals are present in granite? Mica, Plagioclase feldspar, and Orthoclase minerals.

CATEGORY 2 (10 POINTS EACH)

  • Q1: How is coal formed? Coal is formed from energy stored in plants that lived millions of years ago and water and dirt piled all the dead plants together to form a clump then in the future it appears as a black rock.
  • Q2: Explain the difference between a rock and a mineral? A mineral formed in a rock and a rock is made up of one mineral.
  • Q3: List three different uses of grinding stones. It makes rocks smoother, forms shapes out of rocks, and to sharpen rocks.
  • Q4: List the information about dinosaurs that can be obtained from fossils. Fossils help us understand how and when the dinosaurs lived back then and we can discover new animals that could of been standing where we are right now.

  • Q1: What properties of flint made it so useful during the Stone Age? It was used in making weapons like spears and it was used to make fire.

CATEGORY 4 (20 POINTS EACH)

  • Q1: Find out more about the uses of marble and slate. Where are they obtained? What are they used for? Why are they expensive? Marble and slate are good for house projects and decorations tiles. Marble forms from limestone when it is exposed to a lot of heat and when it is formed people can then mine it from the limestone. It is expensive because it is a limited source in some places and it is a natural mineral.
  • Q2: Is table salt a mineral? Think carefully about your answer and suggest reasons for and against classifying it as a mineral? Salt is a mineral because you have to mine for them and they are crystals.

CATEGORY 5 (25 POINTS EACH)

  • Q3: It has been one day since that giant rock fell from the sky. Everything is gone, all the animals, plants all gone. I was out foraging for food and supplies for my tribe when i stumbled upon a cave and that's when it happened. A giant bang and the ground started shaking, rocks fell from the roof of the cave so I decided to stay in the cave for the night just to be safe. In the morning I decided to go back to my tribe and... it was all gone the houses, the crops, the people everything I don't know what to do know. The End
