JOB DESCRIPTION

• Fiction-Imagine and create, sometimes have to research
• Nonfiction-Generally no imagination, gather facts about events or people
• Alternative nonfiction-generate advertisements, or give factual accounts, have to be creative to get people to buy their product
• Technical-Write instructions, materials that accompany commercial products, produce publications or newsletters

WORK SCHEDULE

• Most of my time would be spent writing
• May have another job to balance
• Minimum time with editor or other people

WHERE WOULD I WORK?

• From home

SALARY

• Can make between $28,000-$106,000
• In the beginning, between 0-$10,000
• With more experience, earnings can grow

REQUIRED TRAINING

• Nonfiction-Four year degree in English, Journalism, Communications, e.t.c.
• Fiction-No degree required!
• Knowledge in subjects like philosophy, art, history, e.t.c. is encouraged

WHERE COULD I GET THIS EDUCATION?

• NMU, or various surrounding colleges
• It would cost about $50,000 for me to go to NMU

WHERE WOULD I WORK?

• I could stay in the Upper Peninsula
• Surrounding colleges have creative writing courses
• The job does not require travel
