He was one of the most influential, famous writers of all the Harlem writers.
John T. Scopes
He taught the teachings of evolution, under the pressure of the fundamentalists.
A case was put to solve this and it eventually turned to John.
Fundamentalism
Movement based on literal interpretations on the Bible
Due to this belief, the teachings of evolutions were banned. John T. Scopes was famous for teaching the evolution whatsoever.
Model T
the type of Henry Ford cars that is very affordable, led to more independence for women and teens, people moving to suburbs, and more factory jobs in the midwest
Speakeasy
Illegal hidden bars and nightclubs that sold alcohol.
This was due to the prohibition of alcohols
Ku klux klan
Racist white supremacist group that increase to 4 million members nationwide in the 20s due to anti-immigration sentiment
This rose again due to the racism.
Flappers
Women of the 20s who drank, smoked, and loved to dance.
This is a prove of women's independence, their power, and rights.
AAA (agricultural administration act)
New Deal program that paid farmers not to grow certain crops to lower crop surplus.
This was to support and help the agricultural economy to rise again.
Harlem Renaissance
1920s African Americans movement that created environment that simulated artistic development, racial pride, a sense of a community, and political organization.
NAacp
Organization that fought for the rights of African Americans and published the magazine called the Crisis
Stock market crash
1929 event that signaled the beginning of the Great Depression. Some investors lost their money that they had invested in stocks.
This was a major reason to the Great depression, as most of the moneys of the businessman are invested in stocks.
Hawley Smoot Tariff
In 1930, Congress passed the toughest tariff in the U.S. history. Other countries responded by enacted their own tariffs and soon world trade fell 40.
This further harmed the international trade, which led to a further Depression.
New deal
FDR's collection of programs to provide relief, recovery, and reform during the 1930s.
This was a great effort made by the president to save US from the great Depression
Dust bowl
A severe drought gripped the Great Plains in the early 1930s. Wind scattered the topsoil, exposing sand and grit.
This greatly harmed the agricultural economy, which is a step closer to the great depression.
SEC (Security and exchange commision)
New Deal program that was created to regulate the stock market and prevent fraud.
Okies
Dust Bowl refugees who fled to California to work in Agriculture,
They were met with hostility over the competition for jobs.
Bonus Army
In 1932, 15,000 WWI vets arrived in Washington to support a proposed bonus bill. The Putman Bill was not passed and the WWI vets refused to leave were gassed and pushed out of DC.
This event hurts Hoover image further.
CCC(civilian conservation corps)
New Deal program that gave unemployed men aged 18-25 the opportunity to work with the national forestry service.
This helped the unemployed to get work, which helped some, but not much.

radio announcements made by president Roosevelt. His first audio message was aimed at assuring the American that the Banks were secure.
This was a prove of the ability of the president to communicate with the people. This gave the people more confidence.

New Deal program that hired writers, artists and actors.
This was an effort made by the government to support the unemployed and which is a small success.
National Origins Act
Act that limited immigration to 2% of the total number of people in any ethnic group already living in the U.S.
This restricted immigration from southern and eastern europe. The Act exempted immigration from the western hemisphere.
Volstead act
Act that enforced the 18th amendment. Made the production, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages illegal.
This still led to illegal alcoholic businesses and speakeasies.
