What is “The Problem With Paradise,” about?
Have you ever wanted to go to a nice, warm, and private island? Well Casey got the opportunity to go to her fathers for the summer. Casey and her two brothers (P.J. and Mike) usually go to their fathers for at least two weeks during their summer, but this time Casey, Mike, and P.J are going for the WHOLE SUMMER! Casey is very upset about the whole thing, hoping her mother could change it, because Casey is missing a lot of different summer things planned.(Also her boyfriend Matt)
Will Casey actually have fun with her Father and brothers or will see have the worst summer in the world? You will be finding this out in this presentation.

Characters:
Casey; Casey is a 14 ½ year old girl that is thinking her summer is going to be the worst when her and her brothers are forced to go to their fathers for the WHOLE SUMMER!

PJ; PJ is a 7 year old boy. He the "baby," of the three siblings. PJ is forced to stay with Casey because he isn't old enough to explore the island alone.

Characters:
Jonah; Jonah is a 16 year old boy that is one of the nephews of Casey’s dad’s work partner. Casey starts to find herself thinking, and staring at Jonah all the time. And now knows she has a large crush on him.

Mike; Mike is a 10 year old boy. Mike is one of Casey's younger brothers. Mike is very scientific, and enjoys to explore on Ginger Island where their dad's house is.

Round Character:

Casey would be a round character because you get to know Casey's thoughts, and feelings. Over time through the book you understand through Casey's eyes about how the island looks, and how she is feeling about everything.

I know this is a round character by this textual evidence:
" I haven't really wanted to go over there, particularly given this island name and all, but I'm happy to be spending time with Jonah, so I just smile and nod."

THE REASON I USED THAT TEXTUAL EVIDENCE

  • " I haven't really wanted to go over there, particularly given this island name and all, but I'm happy to be spending time with Jonah, so I just smile and nod."
  • If you notice through that whole paragraph Casey is telling the reader through her thoughts
  • The author is using I, am, I'm. Through the paragraph, this also means that we are in FIRST PERSON perspective.

FLAT CHARATER

  • Casey's dad; Casey's dad would be FLAT CHARACTER because he is in the story but never explained well, and just talks and then he really isn't there.

STATIC AND DYNAMIC CHARACTER:

  • Casey; Casey would be a dynamic character because over time Casey starts to change as a character.
  • For example; Casey thinks she was going to hate being away with her friends, and her mother. But at the end she didn't even want to leave.

STATIC CHARACTER:

  • PJ would be a STATIC CHARACTER because over time PJ doesn't change, and you get to understand what kind of character but he doesn't become different.

WHAT PERSPECTIVE

  • This whole book is a FIRST PERSON perspective. There for the author uses the words I, am, I'm, and my (ect.)
  • The author isn't saying "Then Casey went to the beach with Mike, and PJ. The author is telling the reader by saying "I finished up my letter to Gina, and quickly put on sunscreen and head out the door to where PJ was waiting.
  • In that example we were knowing what Casey was doing through her.

WHAT KIND OF CONFLICTS DO THEY FACE?

  • This book goes through a man vs nature conflict.
  • How do I know this?
  • Casey, Jonah, and PJ go to Lizard Island and then out of no where a very strong, and sudden storm struck.
  • The Lizard Island is a different island not connected to Ginger Island where their house is. The boat 'Bob' have a good 3 inches of rain at the bottom. PJ scoopers the water out while Jonah and Casey try to get in.
