PAST HISTORY

  • Founded by Henry Clay in 1833
  • Founded after the split of the National Republican Party
  • Against the ideals of Andrew Jackson and the Democratic Party
  • Favored a more Legislative than Executive government

THE EARLY 1800s

  • America was continuing it’s pursuit of Manifest Destiny
  • The Indian Removal Act was passed misplacing hundreds of Indians
  • The tension between the North and South was slowly starting

  • Millard Fillmore (13)
  • Very popular from 1834-54

CURRENT HISTORY

  • Restarted in 2007 by a group of US troops
  • In December 2018, they joined The Alliance Party
  • Mike Lebowitz brought back the party after serving in Iraq

  • Independent Thinking- Analyze all possible solutions

POLITICAL MODERNIZATION

  • Approval of American Anti-Corruption Act
  • Ban on elected officials working as lobbyists
  • Making Election Day a National holiday

EDUCATION

  • Academic rigor should be valued more
  • Teacher pay should be based on skill, not seniority
  • Low income districts should receive more funding

ENVIRONMENT

  • End dependence on fossil fuels
  • Stop supporting corrupt fuel companies
  • More effort needs to be put in

RECENT eLECTION

  • They chose not to nominate a Modern Whig candidate in the last election
  • They are still active and continue to work within The Alliance Party

UPCOMING ELECTIONS

  • Likely would not vote for the Modern Whig Party in upcoming elections from lack of representation
  • I support most of their ideas and may vote for them if they had a candidate

CONCLUSION

  • The Modern Whig Party has brought back some of the ideals set by the original Whig Party in the 1800s
  • They continue to support a strong legislative branch
  • Likely to continue within The Alliance Party for years to come
