KELP

  • grows fast half a meter a day
  • Has a root like structure to hold it to the bottom of the ocean

SEAGRASS

  • Little fish and lobster live in it
  • Traps sand and slows water down

CORALLINE ALGAE

  • They rely on animals to eat them so they don't over grow
  • They can live in different depths of water depending on the amount of light

SEAWEED

  • Needs sun light to grow that is why it is closer to the surface
  • It has to be in salt water to survive

RED ALGAE

  • Red algae gets energy from photosynthesis.
  • Because it absorbs blue light waves it can be found deeper in the ocean than any other Algaes

CORAL

  • Algae grows on it and Adds color
  • When a coral dies, it leaves its skeleton behind and it makes the reef bigger

LEATHERBACK SEA TURTLE

  • They eat only jelly fish and soft things because of their delicate jaws
  • Their coloring protect it from predators

WEEDY SEA DRAGON

  • They use their fins to blend in because they look like kelp
  • They are carnivores that use their snout to suck its prey into its toothless mouth

PUFFER FISH

  • They puff up and their spikes stick out to protect themselves
  • They are poisonous to most animals

STAR FISH

  • They have tiny tube feet to move
  • If it is threatened, it can drop an arm, get away, and grow a new arm

MORAY EEL

  • They have a good sense of smell to hunt with

Interesting Facts

  • 1 cup of salt for every cup of ocean water
  • More than 3 million years ago the first living things were from the ocean biome
  • The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from the moon
