Rhetoric is the art of persuasive speaking.
How an author or speaker persuades you of their point-of-view.
As a side note: Rhetoric is important to understand for your use in the 9th grade. Your teachers next year will expect you to know this.
There are three types of rhetoric
As you close watch the video, pay attention and take notes on what ethos, pathos, and logos are.
Ethos:
The use of credibility to persuade the audience.
Pathos:
The use of feelings and emotions to appeal to audiences.
May also use figurative language such as irony and metaphors.
Irony:
Often used as a tool for humor. Conveys to the audience that something does not add up. Used to ridicule an idea by pointing out how the idea is a contradiction
Writes a song about gold diggers
Metaphors:
A comparison not using "like" or "as"
Authors may help connect ideas to the audience by helping them understand through metaphors
Logos:
An appeal to audiences through logic. Uses facts and statistics.
