PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Objective: I can understand and use the art of persuasion through rhetoric.

When we write our argumentative papers, and speeches, and when we read speeches we need to think of the three types of rhetoric

Rhetoric is the art of persuasive speaking.
How an author or speaker persuades you of their point-of-view.

As a side note: Rhetoric is important to understand for your use in the 9th grade. Your teachers next year will expect you to know this.

There are three types of rhetoric

  • Ethos
  • Pathos
  • Logos

May also use figurative language such as irony and metaphors.

Irony:
Often used as a tool for humor. Conveys to the audience that something does not add up. Used to ridicule an idea by pointing out how the idea is a contradiction
