  • They made thier mark, as cowboys, explorers, trappers, lawmen,
  • And pretty much everything someone could be in the "wild west"

  • Cavalrymen
  • Saloonkeepers
  • Outlaws

  • Champion Roper of the Western Cattle Country
  • Nat's family were slaves until the Civil war
  • Nat was 15 at the time
  • Later he headed out west where men can
  • Ride free

  • When Nat was 22 he entered a Fourth of July Rodeo
  • He out roped and out shot the white men there
  • "The assembled crowd called me 'Deadwood Dick' and
  • Proclaimed me champion of the western cattle country"

  • Power: Going to the west allowed slaves freedom.
  • Profit: Going to the west opened many job opportunities
  • Property: going to the west allowed people the chance to own land

DRISCIMINATION

  • Even though they were free
  • And in the west, people of color
  • Were still often killed for them being black or
  • Chinese or even Mexican.

DISCRIMINATION

  • Many groups still were after the minorities
  • KKK were one of the main group that
  • Lychned, beat, or shot, African-American
