THE TRIPLE NICKLES

The First black paratroopers

The Triple nickels were the first black paratroopers in the USA.

They trained in North Carolina and fought fires in the Northwest.

Why Important

  • The Triple Nickels were important because they over came racism.
  • They had to have extreme courage to keep working in bad conditions.

When

  • The Triple Nickles trained from mid January 1944 to March 4 1944.
  • They where sent to Northwest America from early May 1945 to October 1945

Facts

  • When putting out fires they made 1200 jumps and helped control 36 fires
  • For a reason unknown, the Triple Nickels never fought in WWII
  • Some soldiers before being with the Triple Nickels were at the training location, but washed dishes.

A lesson that you can take away from this is no matter what your color is you can be anything and that race doesn't mean everything.

I recommend this book because it was pretty good and it teaches good lesson about race.
