MAJOR JOB DUTIES

  • Review damage reports,prepare cost,plan work
  • Inspect cars for structural damage
  • Attach or weld replacement parts into place
  • Hammer out or patch dents

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma
  • 2 year college
  • 3 years of hand on training to become fully independent body repairer

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typically work indoors in the body shop
  • Which can be noisy
  • Most shops are well ventilated
  • Work full time and it is common for over time
  • Often include working evening and weekends
  • Can get minor injuries like cuts,burns,and scrapes

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS

  • Wear work shirt and pants
  • Hammer,face shield ,paint spray gun,wrenches,pliers,etc.

A typical day at the shop is estimating the cost of a repair job. Do the basic task like taking out dents. Or just start where you left off if you were working on a project
