COLORS OF STARS

  • Cool colors are hotter then bright colors
  • Sometimes stars are different colors
  • Red glowing embers are hotter then candle's yellow flames
  • Betelgeuse is red and rigel is blue and its easier to see them in witer months

COMPOSITION OF STARS

  • There is a rainbow of colors called a spectrum
  • A hot solid object give off a continuous spectrum
  • Stars don't continuous spectrum
  • You can use a prism to spread sunlight
  • Stars give off spectra that are different from light builbs

CLASSIFYING STARS

  • In 1800s people started collecting spectra of stars to help classifying
  • Classified by how hot they are
  • By patterns
  • Class O is the original class
  • Blue is the ottest of all stars

BRIGHTEST OF STARS

  • Stars are brighter because of their size or energy output
  • Its not the same as it seems on earth
  • Absolute is the actual brightness of a star
  • The sun has an absolute magnitude of 4.8
  • Sun brightest object in the sky

DISTANCE TO THE STARS

  • A light-year is the distance that light travels
  • Speed of light is 300,000km
  • North Star as 431 light-years than 4,080,000,000,000,000km
  • The shift can only be seen in a telescope
  • Stars by the earth move by more-distant

MOTIONS OF STARS

  • The earth rotates on its axis and thats how we have night and day
  • Sun the sun moves acrossed the sky
  • You see different stars because the earth turns
  • The rest of stars appear go rotate around polaris
  • The stars start to move when they get older

TYPES OF GALAXIES

  • Spirt galaxies are what people mostly think of galaxies
  • THe central region appears yellow
  • One-third of all galazies are slimply massive blobs of stars
  • Some of the galaxies are shaped of cucumbers
  • These galaxies are called elliptical galaxies

CONTENT OF GLALAXIES

  • Galaxies are composed of billions and billiona of stars
  • Some kind of clouds glow by themselves
  • Open clusters are a group of stars that are located around the spiral disks
  • The latin word for cloud is nebula
  • The are a few hundred of thousands of stars in the open custer

ORIGIN OF GALAXIES

  • The most distant object are quasars
  • They are very far away
  • Quasars are among the most powerful energy sources
  • quasares look like tiny points of life
  • quasars are very bright

THE BIG BANG THEROY

  • Most important theroy
  • They think the universe started with a big explosion
  • Than it rapidly expended
  • All the contents were all togather at one point
  • Expanding energy turned into matter than it created the glaxies

UNIVERSAL EXPANSION

  • Glaxies are moving away from us
  • The unervers is contracting not expanding
