Metrics

  • Metrics maybe used where panels consider it appropriate.
  • In UoA3 it won't be used as standard but maybe reviewed.

Staff and Outputs

  • Core criteria staff must be min 0.2 FTE
  • Have to be independent researchers ie not PhD students (although staff PhD is a grey area).
  • Hallam will use the new AWP to identify staff with responsibility for research in their workplans on the day of the census.
  • The census date is 31st July 2020.

Staff and Outputs

  • Significant responsibility for research- those whom explicit time and resources are made available to engage actively in independent research and that is an expectation of their job role.
  • Staff engaged explicitly in scholarship would not be considered to have a significant responsibility for research.
  • Independent research-leading or acting as a PI or equivalent on a research grant or significant piece of work.

Staff and Outputs

  • Av number of outputs per FTE will be 2.5 min of 1 and max of 5
  • Panels will consider eligibility of outputs made publicly available when researchers were PhD students.

Open Access

  • Date of acceptance of the article for publication now replaces date of publication.
  • All outputs MUST be submitted to SHURA within 3 months of being ACCEPTED for publication ie within 3 months of the letter of acceptance.

Other

  • ORCHIDs will be mandatory for REF 2027 so are being strongly encouraged for REF 2021.
  • A min of 2 impact case studies are required per UoA.

Key message

Key message

  • Everyone should have a publication plan-see paper on staff BB site.
  • Publication plans need to be reviewed in PDRs.
  • Get an ORCHID
  • Submit all outputs to SHURA within 3 months of date of acceptance by the journal.
  • Need to get slicker at ensuring co-authorship on student publications and making sure they are high standard and we have input into journal chosen.
  • Quality of research is crucial, must be considered at planning stage not at stage of publication, but publication must reflect quality of study.
