In the 1100's Knights formed The Great Military Orders of Knighthood.
-Knight Templars, Livonian Brothers of the Sword, Teutonic Knights, etc.

SOCIETY ROLE

  • Knights were considered nobles in the military class
  • Could also be vassals that owe military service
  • Had their own lamd
  • Protected kings,women,and acted as body guards for the town

Sons of nobles would serve as a page at around age 7, then become a squire, then knighthood. Knights would begin fighting at ages 16-20. Before becoming a knight you had to have a religious ceremony to be granted knight hood. Knights had education from their fathers also.

LIFE STYLE

  • Established with kings and other noble men.
  • We're required 40 days of service a year, wether or not it was peace time or war time.
  • Served in courts as jury members also
  • Usually wealthy

Knights were suited in full armor, either chainmail, or plated. Their horses were also fully armored. They had swords and other weapons like jousting sticks. The armor was very expensive and made by a blacksmith.

Knights ate very well because they needed to be fit and healthy for battle. They ate meats, cheeses, breads, wines, fruits and veggies when they were available.

CLOTHES

  • Linen under shirts and underwear
  • Wool stockings
  • Arming coat padded with grass or wool
  • Surcoat that identified who the knight was.

HOUSE OR DWELLING

  • Owned own castles
  • Fire area with hole in roof
  • Carpets and basic furniture more than peasants.
  • Dirt floors or stone.
