BIOGRAPHY

  • born March 18, 1858 in France, died september 29 1913
  • thought to be lost at sea, no one knows what happened
  • some think he fell over board and drowned
  • German thermal engineer who invented the internal combustion engine

DIESEL ENGINE

HOW DOES IT WORK

  • takes in air through the intake valve during the first stroke
  • during the 2nd stroke the intake valves close and compressthe air
  • the air heats up to 1300 degrees
  • in the 3rd stroke diesel fuel is injected right into the cylinder
  • the fuel ignites due to the high tempeture.

CONTINUED

  • the explosion forces the piston which sends power to the crank shaft
  • the 4th stroke is the process is when the spent-fuel exits through the valves
  • then the cycle is repeated.

USES

  • trains, ships, trucks, power plants even submarines use diesel engines
  • 40% more efficient then other engines
  • compressing the fuel makes it so it burns more completely
  • use less deisel then you would with gasoline
  • its a natural lubricant meaning it would run with less friction.
