Electromagnetic Spectrum- The arrangement of waves according to their wavelengths and frequencies.

Photon- Light acts like a stream of particles

Spectroscopy- The study of properties of light that depend on wavelenths

Continuous Spectrum- produced by incandescent solid liquid, or gas under high pressure.

Absorption Spectrum- produced when visible light is passed though a relatively cool gas under low pressure.

Emission Spectrum- produced by a hot gas under low pressure

Doppler Effect- Refers to the perceived change in wavelength of a wave that is emitted from the source that is moving away or toward and object.

Photosphere-Radiates most of the sunlight we see and can eb thought of as the visible of the sun.

Chromosphere- A relatively thin layer of hot gases a few thousand kilometers thick.

Corona- The outermost portion of the solar atmoposhere

Solar Wind- The streams of protons and electrons that boil from the corona constitute the solar wind

Sunspot- The dark regions on the surface of the photosphere

Prominence- a concentration of gases above the solar surface that appears as a bright arclike structure.

Solar Flare- A sudden tremendous eruption in the solar chromosphere

Aurora- a bright display of every changing light caused by solar radiation interacting with the upper atmosphere in the region of the poles.
