NAVAJO TRIBE

WHERE/HOW THEY LIVED

  • They lived in the southwest part of the country.
  • The climate impacts the way they lived because it was very dry and there was a lot of sand dunes that damaged houses.
  • The cause of so many sand dunes made it so the Navajo tribe couldn’t farm and if they did it would be a lot of hard work would just be for nothing
  • They did not get water where they lived so if they needed water they would have to take a really long walk to get some.
  • The desserts were filled with cacti.

NAVAJO HOUSES

  • They lived in mud moats
  • They built homes out of wood and dirt
  • Sand dunes damaged houses
  • A lot of the community had to relocate because of the sand dunes swallowing their houses
  • They also built homes on the side of cliffs to prevent sand dunes swallowing their house.

NAVAJO FOOD

  • They ate fry bread
  • They ate squash
  • They ate beans
  • They ate corn
  • They ate deer
  • They ate anti lope

TRADITIONS AND CULTURE

  • They sing songs(culture)
  • They hoop danced (tradition)
  • They believed in making people happy (culture)

CLOTHING

  • Their clothing can be made out of cloth.
  • It can be animal fur.
  • It can be cloth from plant fibers.
  • The cloth can be made into dresses and stuff
  • They were necklaces.

GOVERNMENT

  • Each band had their own chief
  • The chief doesn’t make the decisions for the group
  • The council made the decision for the group
  • The chief was known as the advisor
  • Now the council members are elected.
