MAJOR Symptoms

  • Diarrhea, often with blood or pus. Abdominal pain and cramping. Rectal pain. Rectal bleeding — passing small amount of blood with stool. Urgency to defecate. Inability to defecate despite urgency. Weight loss. Fatigue.

History of (IBD)

  • Ulcerative colitis was first described in 1875 by two English physicians, Wilks and Moxon, who distinguished it from diarrheal diseases caused by infectious agents.
  • The exact cause of Crohn's disease remains unknown. Diet and stress were suspected, but now doctors realized that these factors may aggravate it, but don't cause Crohn's disease. A number of factors, such as heredity and a malfunctioning immune system, likely play a role in its development

  • Ulcerative colitis does not normally affect the small intestine. But it can affect the lower section of your small intestine called the ileum.
  • Joint pain is the most common non-gut ailment for people with IBD. It can affect your large joints like your ankles, hips, or knees, or small ones like your fingers.
  • Inflamed airways making hard to breath.
