Blessed are the poor in spirit Definition: poor in spirit means to be humble. Humility is realizing that all your gifts come from God. Humility brings out an openness and inner peace in all of us.
Blessed are they who mourn Definition: if we are humble and appreciate all the gifts that God has blessed us with, we can grow in love and happiness with God. Jesus feels sad when his people are sad. He is filled with sorrow for those hurt by sin.
Blessed are the meek Definition: someone who is meek is humble, gentle, and kind. “Jesus was meek and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29). Someone who is meek shows self-control.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness Definition: this Beatitude reminds us to always make the right decision. It helps us remember to try and live by the rules and values that Jesus taught us. If we live out this Beatitude then it can help us keep our friendship with Jesus.
Blessed are the merciful Definition: this Beatitude reminds us that we need to be friends with the poor, the outcasts, and the sinners. We need to remember to forgive those who sin against us and people who hurt us. This Beatitude reminds us to love and befriend others and to forgive them.
Blessed are the clean of heart Definition: being pure of heart menas having God at the center of your life. All of your actions, decisions, and thoughts should be centered on God and what he would want you to do. God wants you to use the gifts he blessed you with for the benefit of others.
Blessed are the peacemakers Definition: Jesus brought peace where ever he went, and he wants us to do the same. Jesus brought us God’s love so that we could share it with everyone. To be a peacemaker we must be at peace with ourselves.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness Definition: persecution is the outcome of someone who takes the catholic faith very seriously. People will be so committed to God’s faith that they decided to die for their faith. We do this when we have a very personal love and connection with God.
