how many things do you do when you test?
MAKE A QUICK LIST/MINDMAP
- what skills you have and use
- types of thinking
- knowledge you draw on
- experience base
- tools, apps, resources
- conversations you have with others
you have a tonne of skills and you work hard
so why would you ever say....?
"I played around with it"
"Testers just break stuff"
"I looked around and I couldn't see anything"
Be specific about what you've tested, and how. Use language that reflects the skills you've used.
Be explicit!
Talking openly about the skills you use allows others to better understand. It improves your image and the image of test as a guild/profession.
Consistency
It's important to give the same message no matter who you're talking to
Manage expectations with clarity and detail
Be proactive
speak up: be the expert
accentuate the positive
"Everyone's working together to make an awesome thing!"
Educate
Up, down, across - but pitch it to the audience
