WHO IS MY EXPLORER?

  • Simon Fraser was born on May 20, 1776 in Mapletown New York.
  • He moved to Canada in 1784.
  • He got married and had nine children.
  • He died in 1862.
  • He joined the Northwest Trading Company when he was 16.
  • He was a fur trader.

WHAT DID MY DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • Simon Fraser discovered a route from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
  • His explorations were done in what we now call British Columbia.
  • He built a series of forts because it was important to start trade in the area west of the Rocky Mountains.

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DO HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • Simon Fraser built many forts throughout western Canada.
  • He built the Rocky Mountain Portage House, Fort James, Fort Fraser and Fort George.
  • He also found places like Lytton, Hells Gate and Hope.
  • He then traveled to the Pacific Ocean.
  • He also explored on the Fraser and Peace Rivers.

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Simon Fraser conducted his first exploration 1805
  • He made his second trip in 1808.

WHY DID MY EXLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Simon Fraser was exploring because he want to find a trading route from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
  • He was sent by the Northwest Company to continue trading west of the Rocky Mountains and to build new forts.

HOW DID MY EXPLORER EXPLORE?

  • He used canoes that were 12 metres long.
  • He also had help from the Indigenous people to learn to survive land .
  • He travelled to many places to trade fur and packaged them in big bags and they were heavy to carry.
  • He used a compass and a telescope to show him which way he was going.
  • He kept a journal to write about things he discovered.

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE IN THE WORLD AFTER MY EXPLORER'S EXPLORATIONS?

  • Simon Fraser built the first settlements in British Columbia.
  • He found the Fraser River that we now have a route from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
  • Some of the forts that Fraser founded are still in British Columbia and are tourist attractions.

  • . I think he was awesome and knowledgeable because he made forts and trade routes.
  • He was a thinker and an inquirer because he built many forts that people could stay in when they were trading.
