MIXTURES AND SOLUTIONS

  • Today we will be learning....
  • What a mixture is
  • Types of mixtures
  • The difference between mixtures and solutions

QOD

  • What are the two main types of mixtures?

QOD

  • Heterogeneous Mixtures
  • Homogeneous Mixtures/Solutions

MIXTURES AND SOLUTIONS

  • A mixture is a nonchemical combination of two or more substances.
  • In other words, the substances can be separated by physical means like heat and friction.

TYPES OF MIXTURES

  • There are two main types of mixtures, heterogeneous mixtures and homogeneous mixtures (solutions).

HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURES

  • If the particles in a mixture consist of clumps of atoms or molecules, especially if the clumps are very large, it is is heterogeneous. The term mixture by itself usually refers to a heterogeneous mixture.
  • The two types of heterogeneous mixtures are Colloids and Suspensions.

COLLIODS

  • Colloids contain small clumps of atoms.
  • The colloidal particles scatter light.
  • Examples: jelly, marshmallows, and paint

SUSPENSIONS

  • Suspensions contain large clumps of atoms.
  • The particles will eventually settle out creating, a layer of sediment at the bottom of the mixture.
  • Examples: salad dressing and sand in water

SOLUTIONS

  • The solute is evenly distributed in the solvent in a solution.
  • Particles do NOT settle at the bottom of the mixture in a solution.
  • Examples: salt water, syrup, and bronze

BIBLICAL INTEGRATION

  • You are a mixture.
  • You may have little or large clumps of stress, anxiety, and depression that people can see.

BIBLICAL INTEGRATION

  • You are a solution.
  • You may have stress, anxiety, and depression, but people don't see it.

BIBLICAL INTEGRATION

  • No matter which one you are, you have problems that need to be fixed.
  • God is the only one who can remove these problems from you.
  • Just we use heat and friction to separate the substances, God uses the Holy Spirit to separate us from any problem we might have.
