More fun

than meditation
Crafting (or being creative) is like meditation only instead of sitting still you get to use your hands.

"When we are involved in (creativity), we feel that we are living more fully than during the rest of life," says Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi who calls this feeling "flow."

Flow is a state of being so deeply engrossed in an activity that you don't notice the world around you. It gives the brain a break the same way meditation does, de-stressing a body that is normally constantly active.

AGE WELL

Crafts are exercise for your brain
You use your brain for many things when making crafts including visuospatial reasoning, creative thinking, problem-solving, and recall memory. Cognitive exercise such as this is highly stimulating and a major preventative of dementia. Like a muscle, your brain needs to work out in order to stay in shape. Arts and crafts provide the kind of healthy exercise which helps the human brain stay fit as it gets older and older.

You're an artist

Find your craft
Many adults may say they aren't an "artist" and hen mention that they can't draw or paint. However, art is a diverse field which includes all kinds of media and crafts. It isn't simply about putting things down on paper. What matters is finding what works for you whether it's making zines, embroidery, spray painting, building sandcastles, or painting tiny models. You are an artist already, you just need to find your craft.

CRAFts are for everyone

Most importantly, art is for everyone! Embrace your creative side, then pass it on to others. Organize your own workshop, invite a friend out to take photos, or enroll in a class. Sharing your crafting experience will not only make your day but you might make someone else's.
