Buildup of plaque in your arteries (limit blood flow)

Causes

  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • High fat/sugar diet
  • High bp
  • Smoking or other forms of tobacco
  • High Cholesterol
  • Obesity/diabetes
  • High triglycerides in blood
  • Inflammation from other diseases (i.e. lupus, arthritis)

Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood.

symptoms

  • Pain
  • Aching
  • Cramps
  • Increase in blood pressure
  • Numbness
  • Fatigue in leg muscles

Treatment

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Cholesterol-lowering statin
  • Angioplasty
  • Coronary Artery Bypass
Angioplasty- opening a blocked artery
