TEENAGERS ARE PORTRAYED THROUGH DIFFERENT MEDIAS

  • Television
  • Social Media
  • Music
  • Magazines/Newspaper
  • Radio
  • Books

TEENAGERS ON TV

  • It portrays them as tall, thin, tanned etc.
  • On selected programs it portrays them as violent, reckless and out of control (the news).
  • Teenagers are portrayed very stereotypically so everyone can relate
  • They portray teenagers in a fashion that appeals to the audience (they never show anyone studying because that's boring)
  • They portray them as emotional, dramatic and immature.

TEENAGERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Social media tends to portray teenagers by categorising them into social groups
  • Portrayed as perfect and stabled
  • What type of photo the person posts tells you a lot about their hobbies and interests
  • Portrayed by adults and older people saying there young people and don't have responsibility
  • There Portrayed because it seems like you need to be pretty and skinny to be good enough for society.

TEENAGERS AND MUSIC

  • Portrayed because the music the person listens to tells you a lot about the person
  • Music portrays teenagers as a separate generation
  • There Portrayed by music as music can lower there self esteem and mood
  • The type of music the teenager listens to tends to portray their personality and taste
  • It portrays teenagers as party animals as lots of song are drug, sex and alcohol related

Magazines and Newspapers

  • Portrayed teenagers with big brands where some people can't effort them
  • Portrays teenagers as image obsessed and materialistic
  • Teenagers think you need be skinny and pretty to fulfil society
  • Portrays teenagers as advanced and older then they really are

TEENAGERS AND THE RADIO

TEENAGERS AND BOOKS

  • Generally teens in books are either trouble makers, have special powers or are royalty
  • The type of book the person reads could portray their personality and interests
  • Books tend to portray stereotypical teenagers in order for everyone to relate
  • Books tend to portray teenagers unrealistically - as most teenage books are fictional
  • Books portray teenagers based on personal experiences and opinions (author)
