Technology is an integral educational tool that is fundamental to the learning process. This tool is an essential part of meeting the overall mission of Roycemore School to inspire and nurture excellence and prepare each student for success in higher education and in a dynamic and complex world.
Technology Vision Statement - revised in 2015 by committee of teachers with input from admin, students.
21st Century skills - those skills that are tougher to teach in a traditional math/science/history/language arts classes, but so important for success!

We think that each student having his/her own device is the best way to meet these goals (ubiquitous access). It's a tool - the goal is not for them to learn more about technology, but to have these tools seamlessly integrated in their learning, just like they most likely will be in their adult lives (and they are in ours).
MS Teachers at Roycemore already used technology the most often, and demand for the shared devices we had continued to increase.
Projects in MS lend themselves to using technology, and teachers are often willing to try new tools.
Also gives us opportunity to teach tech skills, digital citizenship in a more structured environment. By US, we expect kids to choose their own technology and use it at their discretion.
Each ChromeBook is numbered. The charger # does NOT match the CB # and the tag # this year. Have an extra charger at home! All are encouraged to get their own sleeve. Leave blue shell on!
Since we provide shell & sleeve, students are responsible for keeping it safe, secure, etc. These are durable- last year only 2 broken screens, 1 lost.
Google Docs make it easy to collaborate on projects with classmates and distribute documents. Remember it's a tool for the 4 C's. Other things going on include flipped classrooms, interactive formative assessments (immediate feedback), helps those who have trouble writing.
- Must be invited by teachers to open and use them. - Won't be using them at lunch/recess. - Some classes will use them more than others. - CALENDAR (assignment notebook) and RENWEB!
- Homework that involves online research or uses GC, Docs, or other online tool. - But all of these assignments can probably be done offline (check w/ the teacher) or on another computer. --> Google accounts are accessible from any browser. - Parents are expected to monitor how much time, where kids go, whether or not they use them, etc. at home!
This is for ANY device using our network. Only applies AT SCHOOL! And only when using our network (not your cell phone or a hotspot). Chromebooks will soon also be on a more restricted wifi network, with most video and gaming sites blocked.
GoGuardian Admin - tracks use on school CB's on school accounts (not personal ones, and at this time, not other devices). We only block pornography through this tool, but I get an email when students visit other "flagged" websites.
No filter is perfect. Remember that parents are in charge at home.
But also feel free to contact ind classroom teachers if the question is more about the work in their class, done on the CB, or if you want to ask if something can be done offline for some reason, etc.
