PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ENERGY IN KANSAS

One of the types of energy that I think would be the best for Kansas is wind energy because there is a lot of wind in Kansas

Wind energy is one of the best sources of alternative energy. Wind refers to the movement of air from high pressure areas to low pressure areas. Wind is caused by uneven heating of the earth’s surface by the sun. Hot air rises up and cool air flows in to take its place. One of the disadvantage of wind energy is it costs a lot to build a wind turbine. it cost about $1.3 million.

The second best one would be solar energy because with all those wide open spaces on the plains, Kansas is the perfect place to take advantage of clean solar power.
And it is good to use because it is the cleanest energy

But Solar panels are affected by the surrounding environment. For example, trees and other homes or businesses can block the sunlight, reducing the panels' output. Even if your home is relatively open to sunlight during installation, unexpected future developments of homes or commercial property can quickly put a damper on your solar investment.

The 3rd best one is nuclear energy because nuclear energy is considered as one of the most environmentally friendly sources of energy as it produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions during the production of electricity as compared to traditional sources like coal power plants.

The downside are meltdowns like the ones in Fukushima or Chernobyl released enormous amounts of radiation into the surrounding communities, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate. Many of them may never come back. If the industry’s current track record is any indication, we can expect a major meltdown about once per decade.

One of the energy sources we should not use is Hydropower because we don't have a lot of big lakes or bodies of water

A good thing about Hydropower is fueled by water, so it's a clean fuel source, meaning it won't pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas.

The second energy we should not use is coal. Kansas coal mining began in the 1850s with shallow mines in the eastern part of the state. Significant amounts of coal were produced from both surface and underground mines in Kansas in the late 19th century, primarily to power railroad locomotives. Currently, the state holds less than 1% of the demonstrated reserve base of U.S. coal

A good thing about coal energy is coal provides many jobs in removing coal from the earth, transporting it to the utility, burning it, and properly disposing of coal ash.
