JUDICIARY ACT OF 1801

  • Jefferson hoped that some federalists would support his policies. However, bitter feelings between the parties continued during his administration.

MIDNIGHT JUDGES

  • Adams and Marshall worked around the clock in the final hours of the federalist government, processing papers for these judicial appointments .

MARBURY VS. MADISON

  • In Marbury vs. Madison justice Marshall had for the first time exercised the right of the Supreme Court to review and rule on acts of the other branches of government.

THE MARSHALL COURT

  • John Marshall served as Chief Justice until 1835. He made the Supreme Court an equal partner in government with the executive and legislative branches
