A heroine of the Revolutionary War, Molly pitcher was the nickname of a woman said to have carried water to American soldiers during the Battle of Monmouth on June 28, 1778, before taking over for her husband on the battlefield after he was no longer able to flight.
Mary ludwig, who was born circa October 13, 1754, near Trenton, New Jersey. In 1768, she moved to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where she met william (also known as John) Hays, a local barber. They got married on July 24, 1769.
