Ever since
Allie Johnston saw a certain picture of herself in sixth grade, she has been bothered by her appearance. It still bothers her 4 years later.

When she
started
obsessing
with her
looks, she
began
contemplating
getting a
nose job.

But when she meets people who are having some of the same issues, she learns that maybe focusing on perfection isn't as important as she thought it was.

Allie's Relationships

  • Jen
  • Amber
  • Katrina
  • Mel
  • David
Jen: Allie's so-called "best friend", until Allie starts to realize how Jen is truly treating her quite rudely.

Amber: Amber, the most popular girl at their high school near Manhattan, NY is constantly envied for her looks. But if people knew what her life was really like outside of school, they might be changing their minds.

Katrina: Allie & Katrina become friends over the internet through a blog linked to a plastic surgery site. They bring each other a lot of confidence and inspiration with their problems.

Mel: Just like Katrina, Allie meets Mel on the same site as well. All three of them give each other encouragement and share their issues and work through them together.

David: Everyone sees him as "just another weird kid", but on the inside, is that really the truth? Is there something else to the guy who wears eye makeup and constantly hides his face behind the camera?

"Good relationships nurture you. They help you find yourself and who you are. I don't mean just relationships with boys or men. Relationships with your family, with your teachers, your friends, even people at your job. They shape you" (pg. 174).

Thanks for watching :)
