  • Rule of law
  • phrase of rule the restriction of the arbitrary exercise of power by subordinating it to well-defined and established laws.
  • Everyone has to follow the law
  • Example: the president can go to jail if he murders someone just like anyone else
  • Example: you have to have a permit to drive unless you have a licensces Example: No dui example: you have to be 21 to drink they believed tht people couldnt just get away with anything

MAGNA CARTA

  • the first document imposed upon a King of England by a group of his subjects, the feudal barons, in an attempt to limit his powers by law and protect their rights.
  • To limit powers of the king and protect the people rights and it helped the colonist help the people
  • It helped the people want to fight for more rights
  • Example: able to vote, can impeach president or king
  • Example: congress gets to help people protect their rights, right to be trialed by julry

BILL OF RIGHTS

  • an act of the Parliament of England, whose title is An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject and Settling the Succession of the Crown
  • Lays down limits on power
  • Congress can deside how far to take the rules
  • Crime, rules,how far you can go, what you can get away with
