THE SASANIDS

They came into power when the Parthians were weak, overthrowing their government. The Sasanids were direct descendants from the Achaemenid's.

They rebuilt an elaborate system of administration and founding or refurbishing numerous cities.

The Sasanids were active traders, going all the way to China.

SHAPUR THE FIRST

  • Ruled from 239-272 C.E.
  • He expanded their empire and military
  • He even defeated several Roman armies

Prisoners:
Captured people were put to work, devoting their time to construction of roads and dams

After Shapur, the Sasanids were constantly fighting with those around them. This weakened their empire, leading to their conquest by Arab warriors in 652 C.E.
