WHO IS MY EXPLORER?

  • Born in 1541 in England
  • Loved the sea.
  • The first English navigator to sail around the world.
  • Died in 1596 when he was 55 years old.
  • Oldest of his 12 brothers and was very poor.

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • In 1567 he brought slaves to the New World
  • He attacked and robbed Spanish settlements and claimed them for Queen Elizabeth of England.

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DO HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • North America
  • Took place mostly in the Pacific Ocean.
  • Some explorations took place in the Atlantic and Indian

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Started his explorations in 1553
  • In 1572 he led his ships in attacks against Spanish seaports, settlements and ships.
  • In 1567 he brought slaves to the New World

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • He wanted to learn how to be a sea captain
  • Queen Elizabeth I ordered him to attack Spanish settlements so that England could claim them
  • He loved the sea

  • He explored by using ships, crossbows, arrows, knives and swords
  • He used a telescope and compass
  • He needed a lot of food and fresh water to survive
