EYES AND EARS PRESENTATION

JACKSON JAMES

CILIARY BODY

  • The ciliary body controls the shape of the lens.

SUSPENSORY LIGAMENT

  • a series of fibers that connect the ciliary body of the eye with the lens, holding it in place.

CORNEA

  • the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye

IRIS

  • the colored part of the eye.

PUPIL

  • the opening in the middle of the iris through which light passes to the back of the eye.

AQUEOUS HUMOR

  • the clear watery fluid in the front of the eyeball.

LENS

  • the transparent structure inside the eye that focuses light rays onto the retina.

SCLERAL VENOUS SINUS

  • he scleral venous sinus (SVS) system is an anastomosing network of vessels within the sclera adjacent to the corneal margin and trabecular meshwork,

VITREOUS HUMOR

  • a clear, jelly-like substance that fills the back part of the eye.

OPTIC DISC

  • the distal portion of the optic nerve extending from the myelinated portion of nerve that begins just behind the sclera

OPTIC NERVE

  • This is the part of the eye that carries visual information from the eye to the brain.

FOVEA CENTRALIS

  • Central focus zone where the most visual activity happens

RETINA

  • the light-sensitive nerve layer that lines the back of the eye.

CHOROID

  • the thin, blood-rich membrane that lies between the retina and the sclera

SCLERA

  • the white visible portion of the eyeball.

PINNA

  • This is the outside part of the ear.

EXTERNAL AUDITORY CANAL

  • This is the tube that connects the outer ear to the inside or middle ear

TYMPANIC MEMBRANE

  • The tympanic membrane divides the external ear from the middle ear.

MALLEUS

  • It is attached to the inner surface of the tympanic membrane and its function is to transmit sound vibrations.

INCUS

  • One of three ossicles of the middle ear. It conducts sound vibrations from the malleus to the stapes.

STAPES

  • One of the three ossicles of the middle ear. It transmits sound vibrations from the incus to the internal ear.

AUDITORY TUBE

  • is a tube that links the nasopharynx to the middle ear.

ROUND WINDOW

  • Membrane separating the middle ear and inner ear.

VESTIBULE

  • contains receptors for balance

COCHLEA

  • contains the nerves for hearing

OVAL WINDOW

  • Membrane between middle and inner ear

SEMICIRCULAR CANALS

  • contain receptors for balance

VESTIBULOCOCHLER NERVE

  • Transmits sound and balance from the inner ear to the brain

INNER EAR

  • Part of the ear that contains both the organ of hearing (the cochlea) and the organ of balance (the labyrinth). Labyrinth (Vestibular System)

MIDDLE EAR

  • Part of the ear that includes the eardrum and three tiny bones of the middle ear, ending at the round window that leads to the inner ear.

OUTER EAR

  • External portion of the ear, consisting of the pinna, or auricle, and the ear canal.
