Early life

  • Birth: March 25, 1347 in Siena, Italy
  • 6 years old she began seeing guardian angels
  • 7 years old she decided to devote herself to God
  • 16 years old became Dominican tertiary
  • Death: at 33 years old, in 1430

6 years old

  • Catherine was walking home with her brother when she saw a vision of Christ seated with Apostle Peter, Paul and John
  • She then vowed to give herself to God

Service to her family

  • Catherine began using her family as representations of the followers of Christ
  • father= God
  • mother= mary
  • brothers= apostles
  • began serving them which allowed for spiritual growth

DOMINICAN TERTIARIES

  • joined the "mantellate"
  • Roman Catholic third order affiliated with the Dominican order

How she showed her faith

  • worked to bring the papacy of Gregory xi back to Rome
  • establish peace among the Italian cities

Summer of 1370

  • Catherine received a number of divine mysteries
  • visions of heaven, hell, and purgatory
  • she wrote letters and shared these visions with others, who soon followed her
