Context for Multimedia Composition

• In 2013, we dropped all English electives at Ames High
• Instead, we offered two levels of English 9 and three levels for grades 10-12.
• Advanced Composition, Creative Writing, Introduction to Journalism, World Literature and more were gone.

Context for Multimedia Composition

• In 2018, the new superintendent asked us to bring back engaging electives. I found resources through the JEA.
• That fall we conducted a needs assessment and surveyed students and parents. I reconnected with Renee Hobbs and Troy Hicks.The principal wanted all courses approved by the NCAA.
• The principal wanted all courses approved by the NCAA. In the spring of 2019, we piloted several elective options for seniors. Multimedia composition was one of the initial choices.
• The principal and the curriculum director left that summer.
