April 21, 1947- November 15, 2013

Barbara Park:

  • was born in Mount Holly, NJ in April 1947
  • she has 2 sons with her husband Richard.
  • died due to ovarian cancer, which she battled for 7 1/2 years.

Her series, Junie b. Jones, stayed on the #1 New York Times bestseller list for 180 weeks. This is also the series she was best known for.

Barbara did not have a traditional start to writing, and it wasn't something she really wanted to do till much later in life. In fact, she actually started going to school to be a high school teacher and soon realized after she obtained her degree that she wanted to be a writer.

She wrote over 50 books. Before her death in 2013, she won over 40 children's book awards.
