TROPISM

  • THE TURNING OF ALL OR PART OF AND ORGANISM IN A PARTICULAR DIRECTION IN RESPONSE TO AN EXTERNAL STIMULUS

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TROPISM

  • In a positive tropism, the plant moves towards the stimulus.
  • In a negative tropism, the plant moves away from the stimulus.

STIMULI OR STIMULUS?

  • If you are talking about 1 thing, it's a stimulus.
  • If you are talking about 2 or more, it is stimuli.

GRAVATROPISM

  • A plants response to gravity.
  • Positive- growing towards gravity
  • Negative- growing away from gravity

PHOTOTROPISM

  • A plant response to light. It can be natural sunlight or a lightbulb.

THIGMOTROPISM

  • A plants reaction to touch.
  • Will it die, or effect it?

CHEMOTROPISM

  • A plants response to chemicals.
  • Positive- fertilizer
  • Negative- weed killer

HYDROTROPISM

  • A plants response to water. Usually along the riverbanks or lakes

THERMOTROPISM

  • A plants response to temperature change.
  • Example- color change or growth change
