GUN SAFETY

Where to enroll in a gun safety class: There are many groups throughout the country that offer gun safety courses. To find one, contact local wildlife conservation or local law enforcement.

WHY YOU NEED EAR/EYE PROTECTION

  • Exposure to a firing gun can cause ear damage.
  • Guns can emit debris and hot gas.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A GUN

  • Do not touch it!!
  • Do NOT disturb anything around it.
  • Note landmarks (so you can bring police to the site.)
  • Leave area and call police.

HOW TO STORE GUNS

  • Stored away from children/ unauthorized people.
  • They should be stored separately from ammunition.
  • In locked cases.
  • Unloaded guns may be stored with a trigger lock.

SAFETY AWARENESS

  • ALWAYS assume gun is loaded!
  • Never point a loaded gun at anything other than what you want to shoot.
  • Keep the safety on until you are ready to shoot.
  • Wear protection.
  • Know and obey all gun laws.
  • Know what is in front of/behind your target.
  • Never use alcohol/drugs prior to handling a gun.
