Stella wakes up in Saxby hall. She is bandaged. Then Aunt Alberta tells her that her family died in a car crash.
Stella was in the car crash and hurt herself. She got wrapped in bandages by Alberta.
Alberta fought for Germany in the war because she liked their uniform.
Stella escapes her bandages. She can hear Alberta talking to to her headmaster on the phone saying something like "Don't expect Stella to be back any time soon".
Stella finds a key hidden under the door. She escapes but unfortunately gets put back in the cellar by Albert's owl Wagner.
Alberta put Stella down in the basemen after her
after her attempt to escape. In the cellar, Stella meets Soot, a ghost of the
chimney sweep.

Soot and Stella agree to become detectives. They try and find out what really happened
to Stella's parents and if Alberta was responsible.

They inspect the wrecked Rolls Royce that was her parents and manage to telephone the police who don't seem to be in a hurry to come to Stella's rescue.

Eventually,in the morning the policeman dose arrive but he seems to very much to be on Aunt Alberta's side.

Stella shows the policeman the broken tea-pot which Stella thinks Alberta used to poison her parents.
Stella and Soot find there way around around the chimney chutes.
Wagner's friends lift Alberta up and drop her off a high clift
