PRESENTATION OUTLINE
First, lets describe a noun!
What is a noun? “A noun is people, place, thing, idea!”
A proper noun is a word used to refer to one specific “Person, Place, Thing, Idea!”.
Proper nouns are used the same way as common nouns but, are always capitalized!
This is true when placed
at the beginning of
a sentence or
within a sentence.
Name brands, days of the week, months of the year, towns, cities, counties, states, streets, countries are always capitalized!
Your first, middle and last name is always capitalized!
Although all sentences must
begin with a capitalized
word, it may or may not
be a proper noun.
Can you find
the proper nouns?
I love reading Earnest Hemingway novels!
You should ask Mr. Jones to answer all
of your questions!
We are meeting Sally and Bob for dinner tonight!
They are visiting San Francisco this winter!
He lives in an interesting city but, New York is so expensive!
She works for a
company in London!
It is made by a company called Microsoft!
I have driven a Volkswagen for
many years!
You drink too much
Coca-Cola!
We rarely eat out at McDonald’s in town!
They really enjoyed visiting the
Central Park Zoo!
He visited the
Empire State Building
in New York!
She will visit a new city in California this year!
It looks like she is
going to relax in
Morro Bay soon!
