JISC use the definition which I have found to be most useful and straight forward
"the capabilities which fit someone for living, learning and working in a digital society"

Online identity

Who are you? (online)

Some stats

  • 80% Employers look at your profile
  • Professional headshot
  • Your online portfolio
  • The size of your digital footprint
  • Your character and behavior
according to Glassdoor, 80% employers are looking at your online profile.
They want to see that you are able to manage your online presence and will respect their reputation as a member of their community.

They are also interested in the company you keep.
Fun fact: Some credit scores are decided by the area you live in and the people you are friends with.

You are known by the company you keep in real life and virtually.
