BELIEFS

  • Elders were respected-they had a potluck which was a ceremonial feast with food,dancing and gift giving-they respected the earth

  • Built in bays where they were shelter from the river they lived in long houses made from cedar

  • They used canoes to fish and visit others - there was two kinds of canoes one was large to travel long distance in salt water - the other was small to travel in more sheltered waters for fishing and hunting ducks

  • Art includes basketry and weaving They're well known for their carved totem poles and masks.
