The song presents a blatant negative view of life. It gives the impression that life is only collection of burden, pain, and misfortune (Its a bed of nails). This view does not match a Christ-like worldview which sees the good in the world.
The song comes from the perspective of a man struggling with the perceived "violence" and "despair" in life. He tries to stay positive but is consistently bogged down by the suffering in the world. He questions the God who may or not be there, asking when enough is going to be enough. It resembles some perspectives and problems many Christians face but fails to find solace in God.
The song is similar to Soloman's expression of vanity and hopelessness in life despite all the earthly riches one could attain. Unlike Pslams, however, this song fails to find any comfort or meaning in God.
Red Dead Redemption follows the story of ex-convict and outlaw John Marston. He attempts to rebuild his life the way it was meant to be with his wife and son. Before he can do so, he is forced to track and bring in all of his fellow gang members and close friends. Despite his "redemption" people still see him as a crook and can't forgive his past. This results in the Government turning their back on their word, and killing John as well, the last and final member of the gang.
Spec Ops: The Line portrays a realistic and haunting depiction of war unlike many modern day shooters today. The game reinforces and portrays the consequences of actions throughout the game, including scenes like where the player mistakes a group of refugees as an enemy position and proceeds to drop White Phosphorous mortar rounds into the surrounding areas which leads to 245 men, woman, and children horrifically losing their lives. The psychological damage the player and his squad recieves through the campaign swiftly takes a toll on their mental stability. The game is less about shooting people and more about understanding the severity and hellish nature of conflict.
This television show emphasizes how one can never fully put their trust in anyone. Every character soley confides in themselves and seek any methods (varying from killing children, betraying their family members, or simply declaring war against the world). The world depicted in Game of Thrones is shrouded in darkness and parania seemingly devoided of any good.
The world is a desolate husk of its former self. Mankind has fallen into madness. Max, a former cop, succumbs to the barbaric lifestyle after the loss of his family. He becomes self centered and vicious as the rest of the world. The story then follows him as he helps the innocent, slowly but surely regaining his humanity.
The playable character dwells in a dark medieval fantasy setting, scorched, destroyed, and plagued by war, pestilence, and poverty. The character is a mercenary of sorts, solving problems for people for a fee. These contracts, however, are often riddled with moral choices, to help yourself in a broken world or to be the unfamiliar helping hand many have seemed to have forgotten.
"If I had to chose between two evils, I'd rather not chose at all" -Geralt, the playable character
There are a plethora of themes represented throughout the trilogy. Such themes as humbleness, where Frodo Baggins, a lowly hobbit, turns out as the savior of Middle Earth, the corruption and vanity of greed, where Smeagol and the Nine Kings of men are destroyed physically and mentally by the power of the One Ring, and destiny, where Aragorn son of Arathorn descendant of the Prince Isildur takes up the crown and unites the fallen kingdom of man.
The song defies and ridicules the idea of making a connection with someone through religion. It is apparent that the band has a negative view of religion.
