HEAT AND COLD APPLICATION

BY CALEB VELEZ

HEAT/COLD APPLICATION

  • Heat and cold application is a type of rehab/therapy used to help heal injuries to a certain muscle or group of muscles.

DIFFERENT SYTLES (COLD)

  • Cryotherapy is a cold therapy used to reduce swelling, body temp, and control bleeding.
  • Moist cold application is used as a compression on the skin with a moist or wet pack. It prevents dry skin.

MORE COLD THERAPIES

  • Dry cold application is the use of ice bags, ice collars, hypothermia blankets, and similar devices.

HEAT APPLICATION

  • Thermontherapy is the use for relieving pain, increase drainage from and infection, increase circulation, and increase muscle mobility before exercise.

MORE HEAT APPLICATIONS

  • Moist Heat application is a warm or wet agent out on the skin to get deeper muscle tissue relieve.
  • Paraffin wax treatment is used for chronic joint pains. It is a heated wax you put the injured body part in to cover it in warm wax to be left on for a different time period depending on joint.

WHAT BOTH APPLICATIONS DO

  • Heat application causes vasodilation. This is were the blood vessels grow larger allowing more oxygen and nutrients to help the healing process.
  • Cold application causes vasoconstriction. This is were blood vessels become smaller to help reduce swelling and decrease any fluid that could be present.
