Copy-delete method

• read text elements sequentially
• decide for each element on inclusion or deletion
• copy necessary bits more or less verbatim from the text

Categorization (superordinate substitution)

• substitute a category name for a list of specific items
• "dog, cat, and goldfish" becomes "pets"

More superordination

• condense subcomponents of an action "got dressed, walked down the street, stopped for coffee"
• simplify to "went to work"

Reframe topic sentences

• paraphrase/copy topic sentences
• reorder and condense to make sense
• we did this with yesterday's article(s) about summarizing
