Engaging Students

This concept catches my attention in every chapter mainly because it's so important in education. I think it's important to keep all students engaged in each lesson. Teaching also evolves over time so it's extremely important for teachers to keep up with technology and teaching styles. All students learn differently so it's up to the teacher to incorporate that into their lessons. In my opinion, students learn and retain more information with hands on experience. i love this concept and I will do the best that I can to do it in my own classroom.

Sharing Information with Families

This concept is really great. I believe that it is so important for families to be involved and aware of what is going on within their child's classroom. It helps teachers communicate with them when they need to and allows the teacher to send information for upcoming assignments and so on to the family. The family can keep up with grades and know what is going on with the classroom at all times. The book talked about sending answers to any questions they may have directly to them to minimize any doubt. I think that is a great idea because families need to be involved and aware of what's going on. It seems like there isn't enough involvement from families and you can see the students struggle because of it.

Publishing Student Work

I also really like this concept. I believe that if students know that the teacher isn't the only one that will see their work, they'll really become creative with each assignment. The book stated "These students enjoy doing work because the activity is meaningful to them and because there is an audience who is going to see the end result" (Maloy, et al, 2013, p. 192). I couldn't agree more with that statement. Students always work harder and think more in depth when other people will see their work. I think it's a good concept to really get everything out of each of the students.
