DEPRESSION

  • What is depression? Depression is: The persistent feeling of sadness or loss of interest that characterizes major depression can lead to a range of emotional and physical conditions. These include inability to sleep or concentrate on tasks. Changes in appetite, decreased energy level, and thoughts of suicide are also seen.
  • How does this comply to Elsa?
I feel Elsa had depression due to the fact she was isolated from her family. Elsa exhibited the signs of: being persistently sad, irritability, decreased energy, loss of interest in activities, and feeling of hopelessness.

ANXIETY

  • What is Anxiety? Generalized Anxiety is: a person is continually tense, apprehensive, and in a state of autonomic nervous system arousal. Panic disorder: an anxiety disorder in which the anxiety suddenly escalates at times into a terrifying panic attack, a minutes-long episode of intense dread in which a person experiences terror and accompanying heart palpitations, choking, or other frightening sensations.
  • How does this comply to Elsa
Elsa, exhibited the panic disorder in the film, since her levels of anxiety ranged from severe to mild through out the movie. However, she stopped doing things she loved and hide herself from everyone including her sister due to her severe fear of showing people her magic. The movie showed parts of Elsa day where she was frightened, and sweating, I'm sure her heart was racing due to her fear of letting people see her powers.

RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER DIAGNOSIS:

Elsa would most likely benefit from therapy sessions, on how to handle her powers appropriately. Also the therapy would help her talk to her family about how she feels being shut away and hidden. No longer having to "conceal and not feel"

I would also recommend anti anxiety and anti depressants which would allow her days to feel more organized and controlled and therefore give her a chemical balance and possibly more stability.
