Gallbladder Cancer

A very rare cancer in the United States

Only about 20,000 gallbladder cancer cases are diagnosed every year in the U.S

Gallbladder cancer doesn't really cause any symptoms or signs

Facts

  • The gallbladder is usually about three to four inches long and no wider than an inch
  • There is no specific cause of gallbladder cancer
  • The gallbladder stores a liquid made from the liver called bile
  • The gallbladder cancer awareness ribbon is kelly green

Gallbladder cancer can be treated by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and supportive and palliative therapy

Native Americans, women, and people over the age of 50 have shown to be more prone to gallbladder cancer

Scientists are looking at new ways to treat gallbladder cancer such as targeted therapy, intensity modulated therapy, and three dimensional conformal therapy

Symptoms can include, stomach/abdominal pain, nausea and/or vomiting, yellowing of the skin or white part of the eyes, and lumps in the stomach
