WHAT ARE THEY

  • It is a electromagnetic wave.
  • Used for treatment
  • X Ray is a electromagnetic wave that used for treatment for medical procedures

INTERESTING STUFF

  • X ray can cause radiation problems
  • They were found to have medical use
  • X-rays could show damaged bones
  • locate a bullet beneath the patient's skin

EM SPECTRUM

  • Located near the end of the spectrum in front of the Gamma Rays
  • They are far to the right of the spectrum
  • They have higher frequency than most EM waves
  • But have shorter wavelengths than most EM waves

  • x- Rays waves move faster than most waves other than gamma rays
  • Radio waves haves less frequency than X-rays
  • But have longer wavelengths than X-rays
  • X Ray photons produce more energy than other photons except for gamma rays.

HEALTH RISKS

  • Can damage cells
  • Damage reproductive cells
  • Cancer risks
  • Can harm pregnant and unborn children
  • Organs and tissues can become super sensitive

TECHNOLOGY FOR PROTECTION AND SOURCES OF EXPOSURE

  • A heavy lead apron- dentist
  • Any weighted apron- used for medical reasons
  • They do everything possible to minimize radiation dose
  • If doctors or scientists are exposed too much without proper
  • protection, then they will be overexposed and harmed

TYPES OF MEDICAL IMAGING

  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • fluoroscopy, and radiography
  • conventional X-ray" including mammography
  • Medical imaging has led to improvements in the diagnosis and treatment

HOW MEDICAL IMAGING WORKS

  • An x-ray source is turned on and x-rays are radiated through the body part of
  • interest and onto a film cassette positioned under or behind the body part.
  • A special phosphor coating inside the cassette glows and exposes the film
  • The resulting film is then developed much like a regular photograph
